WHAT THE FUCK IS THE DIFFERENCE?
A website is the house.
People arrive, look around, find out who you are, see what you do, browse your services or shop and decide where they want to go next.
Very civilised.
A funnel has an agenda.
It takes someone through one specific journey:
Here, have this free thing → now look at this → buy this → perhaps you'd also like this → no? Fine, what about this one? → excellent → check your inbox.
Those extra offers have names, naturally.
An upsell is the additional offer you see after buying something.
A downsell is the smaller or less expensive offer you may see if you say no to the upsell.
It's basically a very polite digital salesperson who never needs lunch.
SO. WHICH ONE DO YOU NEED?
WIX
I need a beautiful website and I would quite like to remain sane.
If you have a service business, personal brand, portfolio, studio, consultancy or traditional online shop, Wix is probably your woman.
It's visual, flexible and considerably easier to get your head around. You can change your copy, swap your photographs, add pages and generally move the furniture without calling a developer every time you have an idea. You use Wix's enormous library of tutorials when you need to know how something works.
What it does not include is me.
Specifically, me receiving a message at 22:47 because you've moved the header three pixels and now something “looks weird on Susan's iPad.”
I believe in you.
Wix has tutorials.

This is where things get more interesting.

A downsell is the smaller or cheaper offer they see after saying no.

Once you understand the machinery, it's bloody useful.
But yes, you have to set up the machinery.
Is it as simple as Wix?
No.
I'm not going to lie to you because I would like you to still like me after Tuesday.
There are more moving parts. You have to connect things. You have to follow instructions. Occasionally you will stare at an automation and question decisions you've made in other areas of your life.
Can you absolutely do it yourself? Yes.
If you can follow instructions and you're willing to give it some time, you can build and run the whole thing yourself.
